Visual identity for the Finnish Surfing Championships 2024
A fresh and sun-soaked identity that brought the spirit of surfing to Finland’s biggest wave event. Inspired by the freedom of the ocean, the visual language captures the movement, energy, and warmth of summer, turning the championship into a celebration of the surf lifestyle.

challenge
Capturing the feeling of surfing
The Finnish Surfing Association asked us to create a visual identity for the 2024 Finnish Surfing Championships that would capture the essence of surfing.
The goal was to translate the sport’s spirit, waves, summer, and freedom into a fresh, energetic, and distinctive identity that stands out both online and on the beach.

solution
A design that moves like the sea
The concept was built around a recognizable main illustration, complemented by bold colors, organic shapes, and surf-inspired typography. The visual world drew inspiration from the rhythm of the sea and the relaxed aesthetics of vintage surf culture, creating a design language full of movement and warmth.
The identity came to life across all touchpoints, from pre-event social media content to live broadcast graphics and on-site materials. Animated Instagram stories added motion and energy, bringing the sunny, wave-filled atmosphere to life long before the competition began. We also designed custom award plaques for each category, a lasting memory of an unforgettable day.
Results
An identity that rides the same wave
The result was a cohesive and vibrant identity that captured the laid-back energy of Finnish surfing. It stood out with a recognizable look that worked seamlessly across digital and physical channels, creating excitement and consistency throughout the event experience.
"Piela immediately understood what we were after, we were riding the same wave from the very first proposal. We received ready-to-use materials as well as adaptable templates that made content creation easy. The Finnish Surfing Association is extremely happy with the final result."
